Where everything here came from
Every visual on this site is one of three things: made for this portfolio, photographed by me, or used under a license named in full below. Nothing is stock, scraped, or uncredited.
Made for this portfolio
All diagrams, the case-study illustrations, the identity mark, the favicon, and the social-share card were designed and built in code for this site, in its own design system. They are labeled as illustrations wherever they appear. The green accent is a nod to the phosphor viewing screen of a transmission electron microscope.
Photographs by Brian Mills
Photographs credited to me on this site were taken by me and are my own work.
Licensed images
Any third-party image used on this site is listed here with its title, creator, source, and license, linked to the original. If this section is empty, the site currently uses no third-party images.
Type
Headlines are set in Fraunces, an open-source typeface by Undercase Type (Phaedra Charles and Flavia Zimbardi). Body and interface text are set in IBM Plex Sans, by Mike Abbink with Bold Monday. Both are used under the SIL Open Font License and served from this site, so no outside service is contacted when you read these pages.
The themes
The site opens in its dark theme and remembers your choice with the toggle in the corner. Both themes were designed on their own terms: the dark one is a warm off-black, the light one a warm paper, each with its own contrast and depth. Every text and background pair meets the WCAG AA contrast standard.
Built by hand
No frameworks, no templates, no page builders. The site is plain HTML, CSS, and a small amount of JavaScript, the same way the newsletters in the case studies are built. It makes no outside requests and respects your reduced-motion setting.
